Description
We propose the experience “PER (Particle Escape Room) me si va ne la fisica recente”, designed by the outreach group “Physics4Teenagers” working at the Physics Department of the University of Pavia. Thanks to the combination of entertainment and learning goals, the educational escape room format has acquired great visibility in the last decades. The activity is a journey through the history of particle physics from the atomic theory of Democritus to the discovery of the Higgs boson, which completes the Standard Model. Then the questions that remain unsolved, such as the problem of dark matter, neutrinos masses, and unification of forces, are explained.
This experience was designed for the “Festival della Scienza” in Genoa at the end of October 2021 and, following its great success, has been proposed to high school students and teachers on other occasions during 2022.
The results of the satisfaction questionnaire confirm the suitability of the format and the effectiveness of the friendly and informal attitude.
With this contribution we will discuss details of the activity and results, mentioning future installations and possible improvements.
