Please see below a number of suggestions to explore around Downtown Vancouver. If you are interested in common activities guided by a local, please indicate your interest during registration - common activities will be organised if there is sufficient interest.

Please get in touch with the Local Organising Committee if you need any special recommendations

Activities for good weather:

Stanley Park:
In walking distance from the conference venue, Stanley Park is a 405-hectare area of pacific rainforest with well-maintained walking trails and the popular "Seawall" trail encompassing the park, with beautiful views of North Vancouver and the English Bay.

Capilano Suspension Bridge:
Accessible via a shuttle ride from Downtown Vancouver, the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park in North Vancouver is one of the province's most popular attractions. With walkways through treetops, a cliff walk and a walk across the suspension bridge, this park offers a possibility to see the rainforest up close.

Note that the park has a special "Canyon Lights" light installation in the winter, which makes the park worthwhile even after sunset.

Fleurs de Villes:
Beginning on December 8th, Fleurs de Villes is an art installation in Downtown Vancouver set up by 50 participating flower shops and artists, spread all over Downtown. You can find a walking map with all locations on their official web page: https://www.fleursdevilles.com/event-page/vancouver-noel-2023

Whale Watching:
Note that most whale watching companies close at the end of November, as the peak season is from April to November. It may be possible to try and organise a whale watching trip, if there is sufficient interest - please indicate your interest early and it may be possible to organise a tour.

Activities for bad weather:

Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art:
Located in Downtown Vancouver and in walking distance from the Conference venue, the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art shows native art from the Northwest Coast and provides an insight into their culture.

Museum of Vancouver:
Located either a medium-length walk or a short bus ride away from Downtown Vancouver, the Museum of Vancouver presents exhibitions about recent history and native history as well as several special exhibitions.

FlyOver Canada:
Extremely popular movie experience showing a flight over all of Canada for an impression of the different landscapes in its different regions and the natural diversity of the country.

Granville Island Market:
Located on Granville Island, an area with a variety of arts and crafts shops (and the perfect spot to find souvenirs), the Granville Island Public Market is a large market hall worth visiting for its variety of food, drinks and craft items.
