Description
With the large dataset of proton-proton collisions collected by the LHC experiments, the study of the Z boson becomes increasingly interesting, especially since rare decays start to become accessible. In this poster, we present the first search for the rare decay of Z to a pair of muons and a pair of taus (Z->ττμμ) in the four-muon final state. This decay channel is particularly interesting as it can probe unique BSM models (such as the tau-philic Lμ-Lτ) and can provide insight on SM Effective Field Theory operators. CMS, using the full Run-2 dataset, studies this decay mode for the first time and sets a limit on its branching fraction with respect to the Z->mmmm decay, which is used as a reference channel.
