Abstract: Topics covered in this lecture:
- History of biofuels in Brazil
- Well-to-wheel and life cycle assessment
- Ethanol, biomethane, HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil), biodiesel, SAF (sustainable aviation fuels)
- Technical challenges and future trends (on-board fuel ethanol reforming)
- Public policies and change in land use (the Brazilian experience)

To be noted: The school attendants will have the possibility to deepen their knowledge on this topic, thanks to the hands-on Lab prepared by Prof. Zabeu and colleagues at the IMT(see INFIERI2023-Labs Booklett).

Lecturer: Prof. Clayton B. Zabeu, DSc, is an associate professor & researcher at Maua Institute of Technology, Brazil, since 2013. As researcher, he is responsible for conducting researcher projects at IMT Research Center, and as a professor he is responsible for teaching subjects related to internal combustion engines, fuels, emissions and energy conversion systems to Mechanical Engineering students at IMT University Center.
Clayton holds a bachelor, a MSc and a DSc degree from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo USP, with an MBA from the FGV School of Business Administration. With more than 29 years involved in automotive and energy R&D sector, he worked for Institute of Technological Research of São Paulo IPT, Ford, Mahle Metal Leve, Sygma Motors, Vale Soluções em Energia and General Electric Global Research Center (Text informed by the Lecturer).
