Description

The ATLAS Collaboration hosts several very popular programmes bringing visitors to our detector at CERN or remotely via video conference from remote locations around the planet. ATLAS physicists take advantage of year-end technical stops and long shutdowns to show off the world’s largest collider detector to local audiences via guided visits and to remote audiences via virtual visits. Throughout the year, local visitors join guided tours through the ATLAS Visitor Centre – the most popular experimental visit site at CERN – and remote guests speak to hosts using a new virtual visit system that features a view of the ATLAS Control Room. These programmes are popular not only for classrooms and groups around the world, reaching tens of thousands of visitors, but also for the guides, who have a chance to hone their skills at describing the detector, our research, and the value of international collaboration. We present these programmes, recent developments, and current efforts to make them available to a wider and more diverse audience around the world.
