Saturday Program

The Duck Tour, ICA, and MFA tickets for the optional Saturday Program visits can be retrieved by participants who have signed up for them, at the registration desk. People who have registered for the Whale Watch will receive a confirmation number during the week.  For the ones who have registered for the Harvard Museum of Natural History, we have given their names to the information desk of the museum, where they should proceed to check-in. Here are instructions on where to head for your chosen visit. Travel to/from each visit location has not been arranged for by the conference, so participants should find their own way, either walking, or by Taxi/Uber/Lyft or by public transportantion, MBTA. Please advised that there will be a large festival adn parade (the Boston Pride for the people) taking place in Boston, around mid-day, on Saturday June 8th, so you should plan for adequate time to reach your destination, on that day.

Whale Watching tour: the tour is operated by City Experiences, information can be found here. We are booked onto the 10AM tour. Please arrive at 1 Long Wharf ahead of time (30 min recommended). The fastest way on public transportation to reach Long Wharf from Northeastern University is to take the Orange MBTA line to State station, and walk over, through the Faneuil Hall Marketplace area. You can also switch from the Orange to the Blue MBTA line to the Aquarium station. One can also take a Uber/Lyft/taxi. The start of the Whale Watching tour is near the New England Aquarium. This is near the Harborside Inn hotel, if you are booked there.

Duck Boat tour: the tour information can be found here. We have some folks booked on the 11AM tour, and some booked on the 9AM tour (please check your tickets for the starting time). The tours start from the Prudential Center at 53 Huntington Avenue, a short walk from the Northeastern University dorm. Please arrive 30 minutes ahead of time.

ICA visit: a little bit farther, but the Institute of Contemporary Art visit on this day, will offer an extra perk. If you arrive at the opening time of 10AM, which is recommended on this day, and stay till 12PM, you will see the high diving jump events taking place from the roof of the ICA itself, into Boston Harbor. It is the Red Bull Cliff Diving 2024 World Series. We could not get a tour visit, so enjoy at your pace. It is close to the Boston Tea Party Museum and the Boston Children's Museum. The fastest way to reach the ICA by public transportation is the Red MBTA line to South Station and walk over. One can also take a Uber/Lyft/taxi.

Harvard Museum of Natural History visit: on the other side of the river, in Cambrige, details here. Opens at 9AM. The Harvard Museum of Natural History (https://hmnh.harvard.edu/) is located in 26 Oxford Street, Cambridge, MA 02138.  It is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.  To visit, it is best to take the MBTA (Boston’s subway).  It is about 8 minutes walk from the Harvard Square station.  The admission desk of the Museum (located on the first floor as you enter the well-marked front door) has the names of the attendees who signed up.  An LOC member (Masahiro Morii) will be at the entrance from 9:00 am to 11:00 am to assist you. The HMNH is connected to the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology (https://peabody.harvard.edu/home), which you can visit with the same admission.

Please note that we will be able to book these third-party tickets only if they are requested before the start of the conference. Participants can still purchase the tour/museums tickets on their own, should they decide to join during the week of the conference.
