Description

Update on the progress of the Study, Integration and Implementation of the new RC6 beam line towards PUMA

Notes meeting 12/03/2025:

  • Full line by end 25 with first transport test and first beam to PUMA.
  • Question: run on local ion source in 2026? Power, vacuum, controls, consignation? Check with Jose for vacuum. Power?

Mark:

  • Mark: PUMA status explanation.
Oliver: transport end of the year?
Jose: realistic? Already lifting and craning.. Mark: Lifetime important.. – next meeting in summer for response.
Lucas: taking first pbars unknown – personal PUMA issue. Outcome this summer. (HELENA stop 1st week December)

  • Focus on getting RC6 ready! Disconnected from the PUMA status.

Pablo:

  • RC6 beamline layout fixed.
  • Additional irises (before and after switchyard)
  • ZQNA production – 4 spares. Very reliable. New spare production postponed, new application on top of the AD complex. Spares are covering all machines.
  • Layout naming MIRACLS device.. Proposal one line (Paul Trap to MR-ToF in sequence) – post processing needed to simulate anyway.
  • Simon will take care of the naming

Jose:

  • Vacuum status
  • Line layout and vacuum distribution: OK keep as planned
  • Ion source discussion – simulations needed ? Propagation to understand and make sure compatibility
  • 169k on pumps
  • 16k material
  • 40k chambers
  • 83k controls
  • Total lower than first estimated
  • Installation planning (end 25?)
  • Define position primary pumps and if at HT or GND potential.
  • Vacuum signals from HT platform.

    • To all: Vacuum signals for users? – contact Jose/Abel (BI, etc.)

Oliver for Nicolas Critin:

  • On layout: Cable trays, racks and HV cage etc. being integrated (Vincent)
  • Mechanical designs and drawings almost all completed (see slide)
  • Kicker: Lukas following up (electrical feedthrough RBS, etc.) – for kicker launch of chamber = vacuum (done) kicker plates to be launched – Oliver/Lukas o check.

Miguel Nieto:

  • Status of BI equipment
  • All on schedule
  • HV cage collector plates ready for next year (2 long, 2 short) – not for first run (not needed)
  • All designs finished. Delivery end of September. Procurement finalized end of this month.
  • 80% at cern, rest outsourced.
  • Assembly ~1.5 month for each DBox.
  • Dry run using HIE components
  • Installation: Rack in place, cable trays concept done (design)
  • Cabling when HV cage in place and cable trays in place
  • Electronics in production.
  • TDCs received
  • Mid November best case delivery of BI instruments
  • Budget 350k mech + 75k collector plates. Electronics 65k +20k + 18k various elements
  • Ask management (group level) if delivery needs to be earlier (sept components – nov ready)
  • Stage DB3 (lowest priority) – first the rest
  • Vacuum/Jose: don’t open each time – bake-out! Organize group everything.
  • Software and FESA class needs discussion (next meeting?)
  • Calibration – takes 1 extra month. Which precision? Dedicated meeting needed.
  • HV cage MagneToF maintenance?
  • Federico: split commissioning of the line? Jose: without bake out to gain time – if not needed for first tests..
  • Erwin: cabling – attention: consignation during the year with HIE is an issue..
  • Vincent: fixation cable trays on beams, etc. make HV cage all the way up to ceiling? Oliver: design for HV cage to finish which will define trays.
  • Oliver: support positions to be marked drilled – defines cable positions

Roberto:

  • Handling status
  • Crane modifications done
  • Modification brackets – CV ducts entrance ISOLDE
  • Define ISOLDE lifting beam
  • Oliver: prepare the spot for the generator – SCE Christoph to see who can do this. Patrick Gallay for connect up to mains – without power cut in 199?

Lukas:

  • Status of optics and elements
  • Layout frozen – however, final stretch might be shorter: advantage for the annex frame to stay connected to the PUMA frame
  • Status of elements. UHV Quads difficult to (re)assemble (broken feedthroughs)
  • Supports: MR-ToF and Paul Trap alu pieces: some existing, other parts being launched (drawings released)
  • Beam switching tests ongoing at offline (special hardware developed for CAO switching?)
  • HV cage concept and internal connections inside (use of plastic pipes internally for different potentials)
  • Reporting on successful spectroscopy campaign at MIRACLS (34Mg at 10.5keV)
  • Modifications needed for Paul Trap and MR-ToF – Oliver: test modifications on the LA2 position? Lukas: will need collaboration and might cause delay to move to the RC6 line. Alternative: install at RC6 and then modifications.
  • Schedule: Oliver: run of MIRACLS at LA2 for physics interferes with installation at RC6? Lukas: will be in summer – enough time left to move to RC6. But ISO schedule not out yet..
  • How to deal with commissioning of the RC6 line if parts are not in place yet? Timeline: Oliver: perhaps first test without bakeout. get optics ok to send beam straight through. – already challenge for this year. Separate parts and complete next year installation.
  • Magda: manpower for move of MIRACLS? STI and EP together..
  • Oliver/Lukas: knowhow MIRACLS. not many left..

Oliver/Alex/Survey:

  • Floor points done and measured
  • Mark different supports positions – to be scheduled – Alex: to discuss with Vincent.
  • Vincent: work backwards: with elements on the supports and see where the positions of the holes for the supports come.. Vincent has all detailed drawings to derive first spots from.
  •

Nicolas:

  • Power convertors: ISEGG set of complete sets coming soon.
  • Also HT equipment – next week coming – Lukas: install already when available? Also racks on the ground (to be fixed on floor).
  • Vincent: from 3D drawing is accurate enough. – can do marking. HV and other EPC racks (in cage).
  • New crates to design for PLC units

Controls:

  • White Rabbit based – to be ready for this summer
  • HW side: fibers requested to EN/EL (to see with fibers guys – did they pull already? Into BI rack)

Oliver:

  • follow-up meeting in summer.
  • With hopefully parts in pace
  • Local ion source – could work since all other facilities are still running (controls etc.)
  • Federico: strategy for BI. See how realistic is to put high priority to production.

Vincent:

  • Paulo BI: crane in place? Manual crane? Chevre – see with transport but take in account to enter the HV cage, etc.
There are minutes attached to this event. Show them.
