Visa Information

Visa-Exempt Entry

Countries eligible for visa-exempt entry:

  • The nationals of the following countries are eligible for the visa exemption program, which permits a duration of stay up to 90 days: 
    Albania, Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Eswatini*, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Holy See, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kosovo, Republic of Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Marshall Island, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia (effective untill March 31, 2025), Norway, Palau, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tuvalu, United Kingdom, and United States of America.
  • The nationals of the following countries are eligible for the visa exemption program, which permits a duration of stay up to 30 days:  
    Belize, Malaysia, Nauru, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Singapore.  
  • The nationals of the following countries are eligible for the visa exemption program, which permits a duration of stay up to 14 days (trial program effective until July 31, 2025):  
      Thailand, Brunei, and the Philippines.  

Requirements:

  • A passport with validity of at least six months upon entry.  
  • U.S. and Japanese nationals need only ensure their passport is valid for the intended period of stay.  
  • A confirmed return air/sea ticket or an air/sea ticket and a visa for the next destination, with a confirmed seat reservation for departure.  
  • No criminal record or listing by the local authorities.  
  • Nationals from Brunei, the Philippines, and Thailand must provide proof of accommodation (hotel booking), host/sponsor contact information, and sufficient travel funds.  

Duration of stay:

  • The duration of stay starts from the day after arrival and is not extendable. Travelers must depart by the end of the said 14/30/90 days.  
  • Visa-exempt entry cannot be converted to other types of visas, except under special circumstances such as severe acute illness, natural disasters, or force majeure reasons.  

Landing Visa

Countries eligible for landing visas:

  • Holders of emergency or temporary passports with validity more than six months from countries eligible for visa-exempt entry.  
  • Holders of U.S. passports with validity less than six months.  

Requirements:

  • A confirmed return air/sea ticket or an air/sea ticket and a visa for the next destination, with a confirmed seat reservation for departure.  
  • Fill out an application form with one photo.  
  • No criminal record or listing by the local authorities.
  • Visa fee of TWD 1,600 plus a handling fee of TWD 800; citizens of countries with reciprocal agreements may be issued visas gratis.

Duration of stay:

  • The 30-day duration of stay starts from the next day of arrival and is not extendable. Travelers must depart by the end of the said 30 days.  

Guidelines for Hong Kong and Macao Residents to Apply for Entry and Exit Permits

Application procedures and issuance methods:

Applicants apply through the internet via the online application system. After the applicant completes the payment via the online system, they can download and color-print the entry and exit permit and use this permit for entry and exit.

Requirements:

  • Application form: Fill in and register the applicant's information in the online system. The Chinese part must be in traditional characters, and the rest of the information must match the applicant’s attached passport.
  • A 2-inch, color, white-background best photo taken within the last two years.
  • The original Hong Kong or Macau permanent resident ID card (both the front and back sides must be scanned and uploaded).
  • The original Hong Kong or Macau passport must be valid for more than three months.
  • If the applicant's place of birth is Mainland China, one of the following documents must be provided:
  1. The original certificate of non-registration in Mainland China.
  2. The original Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents (commonly known as the Home Return Permit [card]) (both the front and back sides must be scanned and uploaded).
  3. The original notarized certificate of household registration cancellation in Mainland China. 
  • Other relevant supporting documents.

Duration of stay:

  • Single entry and exit permit:
    Valid for six months from the day after issuance. It allows one entry and exit during the validity period. If unable to enter within the validity period, an extension can be applied for once before the permit expires.
  • Duration of stay:
    The duration of stay starts from the day after entry and must not exceed three months. An extension can be applied only once, and the extension period must not exceed three months.

Notes:

  • Permit fees: single entry and exit permit: NT$600.
  •  The processing time is five business days (excluding the submission day, weekends, time for document supplementation and reviews with other agencies).

Other Information

Passengers entering Taiwan through Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport may apply for a landing visa at the Visa Office of the Bureau of Consular Affairs at the airport.
