Description
As the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) finishes collecting data in Run 3, the outlook for future data collection and analysis will require even more data storage and more powerful and efficient dedicated computing resources as it looks to collect much more data in future runs.
From the beginning of the LHC operation 15 years ago, the Germany ATLAS and CMS groups provided massive dedicated grid computing resources at their contributing universities and laboratories. In the last years the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid and the experiments have developed appropriate software tools to extend the CPU and storage resources by using also High Performance Computing clusters. For their Tier-2 resources Germany is now in the transition phase to use such resources to a larger extent. During the next few years the dedicated grid resources so far provided by the universities, will be replaced by nationally funded resources located at big German multipurpose computing and storage centers. The current status and plans of these developments will be discussed.
