Description

Peripheral heavy-ion collisions are expected to produce the largest magnetic field backgrounds on Earth. Even though these fields might quickly decay if in-medium magnetization effects are not enough to sustain their high intensities, the exploration of extreme magnetic field backgrounds in Strongly-interacting matter is highly demanded. In this talk, we discuss how quark anomalous magnetic moments and the equation of state might be modified. We compute the pressure, chiral condensate and strange quark number susceptibility from perturbative QCD up to two-loop order at finite temperature and very high magnetic fields with physical quark masses. We also discuss the case of cold and dense quark matter in the presence of a very strong magnetic field and constraints for quark magnetars.
