Description

MicroBooNE is an 85-tonne active volume liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) neutrino detector in the Fermilab Booster Neutrino Beam, designed in part to investigate an anomalous excess of single electromagnetic shower events observed by the MiniBooNE experiment that remains unexplained. By leveraging the LArTPC technology's unique ability to distinguish photon from electron electromagnetic showers, MicroBooNE has achieved the world's most sensitive search for neutrino-induced single-photon production. With recent MicroBooNE results strongly disfavoring the long-preferred electron-origin hypothesis, photon explanations remain one of the last places the MiniBooNE anomaly can hide. In this talk, I will present recently published results from a comprehensive program of single-photon searches, including an expanded search for neutral-current (NC) delta radiative decays, a model-independent inclusive approach, and a targeted search for NC coherent-like single-photon production. Additionally, I will report on a novel dark sector search that sets the world's first direct limits on dark neutrino models, which have recently gained traction as viable solutions to the MiniBooNE anomaly.
