Description

The HL-LHC will provide amazing opportunities to make high-precision measurements, but will also present significant challenges due to the presence of up to 200 proton-proton interactions per bunch crossing. To maintain the excellent performance of the CMS experiment in this harsh environment, CMS will be upgraded to allow for the use of tracking in the Level-1 trigger. CMS will perform track reconstruction for tracks with transverse momentum above 2 GeV in every bunch crossing using the CMS track finder, an ATCA module equipped with high-speed optical transceivers and high-performance FPGAs that will run a highly parallel track reconstruction algorithm. In this talk, we present the recent progress and current status of the track finder including hardware validation, firmware development, and system testing.
