Description
The LHCb experiment is a forward spectrometer dedicated to precision studies of heavy-flavour hadron decays, probing physics beyond the Standard Model through measurements of CP violation, rare decays, and searches for new weakly coupled particles. Fully exploiting the flavour physics programme in the High-Luminosity LHC era has been identified as a key priority in the ongoing European Strategy Update for Particle Physics 2026. This motivates the collection of about 300 $\text{fb}^{-1}$ at instantaneous luminosities exceeding $10^{34} \text{ cm}^{-2} \text{ s}^{-1}$, placing stringent demands on detector performance.
To meet these challenges, the LHCb tracking system will be replaced during Long Shutdown 4 as part of Upgrade II by the Mighty Tracker, a hybrid solution combining an upgraded Scintillating Fibre (SciFi) tracker in the outer regions with a high-granularity silicon pixel detector (Mighty-Pixel) in the innermost region. The SciFi upgrade relies on microlens-enhanced SiPMs and cryogenic cooling using liquid nitrogen to improve light yield and suppress radiation-induced noise. Mighty-Pixel is based on High-Voltage Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors manufactured in commercial CMOS-technology, providing precise timing resolution in HL-LHC environment. A key challenge is the integration of the sensors into serial power chains on ultra-light modules, requiring optimisation of mechanical integration, powering, and cooling.
