Description

A new Glauber model for pA collisions was developed by making use of the KMR/SHRiMPS nucleon-nucleon cross sections calculation. This calculation describes the nucleonic interactions as exchanges of gluon ladders between the partons making up the incoming hadrons. The resulting cross sections have a non-trivial impact parameter dependence, which naturally comes out of the calculation. This adds an additional source of fluctuation when sampling wounded nucleons using such cross sections and, as recently shown in Eur. Phys. J. C 86, 63 (2026), such fluctuations are allow for the description of large anisotropies in the wounded nucleon distributions in pPb collisions when compared to the ones obtained with the common black-disk models. This new Glauber model also describes high multiplicity events very well, which indicates that it can help describe the large anisotropies observed in high multiplicity pA collisions, thus contributing to uncover the puzzle of small systems.
