Workshop on ultra-high-field solenoids
This 1.5-day workshop will bring together experts in the design, development, and application of ultra-high-field solenoids, with a particular emphasis on the role of high-temperature superconductors (HTS). The program will explore cross-cutting advances and challenges related to HTS solenoids in four strategic areas: future muon colliders, magnetic confinement fusion, high-field scientific instrumentation, and next-generation NMR technologies.
The workshop will provide a forum to exchange knowledge on applied conductor technology, magnet design, quench protection, mechanical engineering, and system integration. Discussions will also address emerging requirements from scientific and industrial applications that push the limits of magnetic field strength, compactness, and stability.
This workshop is organized in the context of the EU MuCol design study, and aims to foster collaboration across disciplines and regions, define common R&D priorities, and accelerate the deployment of ultra-high-field HTS solenoids in demanding environments.
The workshop will be hosted by CERN, preferably in person, but hybrid format could be accepted.
