12 GHz RF Test Stand 20m
In the frame of the CLIC project, RF accelerating structures are developed. Qualification of these 12GHz RF accelerating structures requires performing high power RF tests. CEA-Saclay collaborates for the design of the X Band Test Stand and especially the high voltage modulator and some high power RF components. The first main goal of the XBTS consists in achieving pulse compression from 50MW 1.5µs klystron RF pulse to 100MW 350ns pulse by means of the SLED or BOC system. The second goal is to get statistics for breakdown probability and to check the mechanical constraints imposed to the RF components by the high RF currents. The 450kV 335A 50Hz modulator and the 50MW 11.9942 GHz 1.5µs klystron are described. A focus on the design of the solid state modulator will be done, compared to the PFN modulator type. Its mechanical and electrical characteristics to match the CLIC X Band klystron specifications are foreseen. The design progress on the different RF components for the XBTS is reviewed.
