Directions

How do you get to the MPP?

From Munich city center  take the U6 subway line with direction Garching Forschungzentrum to reach the Max Planck Institute for Physics. Get off at the “Studentenstadt” stop. Once you are above ground, walk northwards along Ungererstrasse. After approx. 200 meters, turn right into Föhringer Ring. After a few meters you will reach the entrance to the MPP.

  • from Garching Research Center: 15 minutes

Getting to the MPP from the airport

Option 1 - Best

Take the Lufthansa Express Bus which is a nonstop connection from Munich Airport into the city center and back again, at 15 minute intervals.  Get off in station "Munich Nord / Schwabing" in Ungererstraße 128, 80805 or the so-called "Nordfriedhof" stop. 

To get to MPI take the U6 subway line from  "Nordfriedhof" direction Garching Forschungzentrum to the “Studentenstadt” stop and then walk to the Max Planck Institute for Physics (route as described above).

  • Travel time with bus to Munich Nord: Approx. 25 minutes
  • Then en a walk of approx. 2-3 minutes to the hotel
  • The institute is just 15-minutes walk away or 1-minute ride with the subway.

Option 2

At the airport one can take the S8 S-Bahn line and get off at the “Unterföhring” stop. From the bus stop “Unterföhring, Rivastrasse” just take the MVV regional bus line 233 to the “Studentenstadt” stop. From here you can reach the Institute as described previously.

You can alternatively take S1 S-Bahn directly to Marienplatz.

Travel time with train to "Marienplatz": Approx. 40-50 minutes

Travel time with from "Marienplatz" to "Nordfriedhof": 9 minutes
