Pitlochry
Pitlochry is a small Victorian-era tourist town in highland Perthshire, situated on the River Tummel and old military road to the Highlands, and known for its early hydroelectric dam, distilleries, and picturesque views.
The area is an excellent gateway to the wilds of the central Highlands, extending over to Glencoe, Rannoch Moor, and the west coast via Lochs Tummel and Rannoch, as well as into the Cairngorm Mountains National Park to the north-east. Many hikes in the area are documented at https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/perthshire/pitlochry.shtml, and guides to quality mountain-biking opportunities (particularly in Dunkeld & Aberfeldy) at https://www.trailforks.com/region/scotland/?activitytype=1&z=10.1&lat=56.65510&lon=-3.79005, and in this video.
The Edradour distillery behind the hotel is currently closed for tours and tastings, but the nearby Blair Athol distillery is fully open and tours/tastings can be booked up to a start-time of 5pm.
Further afield, the Edinburgh festivals begin shortly after the conference and are highly recommended to visitors to Scotland!
