Visas and invitation letters

Visa requirements

Colleagues from overseas are be able to attend ISMD2022 as a UK Standard Visitor -- see https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor for details of visa requirements.

You can use the visa-check form at https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa/y to identify whether you need a visa. Note that attendance at a conference is a "permitted business activity" that does not require a visa as part of an academic visit for nationals of many countries -- this is not 100% obvious from the form!

Letters of invitation for visa purposes will be available upon request for registered conference participants: please email to ismd2022-loc@cern.ch, providing an image of your passport with all relevant information visible. Please send such requests suitably in advance, as you may only be able to request a visa at your local embassy/consulate only after receiving our letter.

Invitation letter

Participants who need a letter of invitation to participate in the conference should request it in advance (email ismd2022-loc@cern.ch). This does not imply any discount on the fee, neither other expenses coverage.

Due to a large volume of spam requests for invitation letters (cf. https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2013/10/the-new-nigerian-scam-targets-professional-conferences-for-visas/280445/) we require that requests for invitation letters be sent from institutional email accounts and clearly explain your reasons for attendance. Requests from e.g. Gmail accounts, especially if not identified with an accepted abstract, will be ignored.
