CERN visits (23 June)

The ERL17 workshop provides the opportunity for participants to visit various CERN sites during the last day of the workshop.

Upon registration, participants will be able to select the tour they are interested in. Guided tours will start at 1pm on Friday 23 of June. Three guided tours are offered (a description of the various sites is available here):

  • Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) & CERN Control Centre (CCC) (1pm-3pm)
  • Data Centre & Antiproton Decelerator (AD) (1pm-3pm)
  • Synchrocyclotron (SC) & Main Workshop & CLIC room (1pm-3pm) 

Groups will be made up of maximum 48 persons depending on the visit itinerary. Places are limited and will be granted on a first come first served basis through registration.

The participants have also the option of visiting the two permanent CERN exhibitions on their own scheduling. More information on  https://visit.cern/exhibitions/permanent-exhibitions

Important information and requirements:

Please note that high heels, open shoes or sandals are strictly forbidden in an underground visit and all visitors must wear a safety helmet (provided by CERN).

No bags larger than 10 litres are allowed in the underground areas (bags can be stored on the buses during the visit). Visitors must be able to wear a safety helmet and pass by themselves through the Personal Access Doors. Minors under the age of 18 remain under the responsibility of their parents or legal representatives and must be accompanied by an adult during the visit.

Persons equipped with a pacemaker, defibrillator, electronic medicine dispenser, hearing aid or metal implant, persons with reduced mobility or otherwise incapacitated, minors under the age of 12, persons suffering from claustrophobia and pregnant women should contact the organizers in case some area may be restricted to them on the day of the visit. The AD visit is not permitted for pregnant women and participants less than 16 years old.

Participation in the visit is at the visitors’ own risk.
