We are happy to welcome the SMARTHEP Early Stage Researchers (ESR), their supervisors, our partners and collaborators to the 2023 Annual Meeting for the SMARTHEP programme taking place at Lund University.

The goal of this event is to hear how the ESR's are getting on with their respective projects and plan the activities for the coming year, including secondment plans. The first three days of the meeting will be dedicated to ESRs and supervisors with a round table and a Network Assembly. The rest of the week will focus on training for the ESRs.

• We received five sets of comments - thank you!
  • We have unfortunately been busy and thus still need to address the comments
  • We will reply to all commenters together, once everything has been taken care of
• Thanks to the ESRs for doing a fantastic job in producing this whitepaper
  • Lots of good material there, we hope that the exercise was useful

 

Hybrid architecture whitepaper

• Distributed the whitepaper to the network for feedback on September 28
• We received four sets of comments - thank you!
  • Most of the comments have been addressed, thanks to Vava
  • A few comments remain, for Steven to sort out
  • We will reply to all commenters once the last comments are sorted out
• Thanks to the ESRs for doing a fantastic job in producing this whitepaper
  • Lots of good material there, we hope that the exercise was useful

 

Trigger whitepaper

• Distributed the whitepaper to the network for feedback on November 17
• Yet to receive comments; deadline currently very flexible
• Thanks to ESRs on getting this ready
  • Overhauling the structure was no small feat!
  • Special thanks for all those involved in the final push to circulation

24 Co-writing / co-editing: whitepapers and whitepaper emails

This session is there to make some collaborative progress together, pick a whitepaper to look at / work on to finalise the outstanding items for circulation to the collaborations and for public consumption.

There will also be a group of PIs (with Caterina) who will draft e-mails to the collaborations to make sure the scope is clear and it isn't trying to substitute any other collaboration efforts.

In this session, we will have time to edit together the common document from the network prior to submission to the EC.

Those are the action items as of 21/11/2023:

• WP6 (real-time analysis and discoveries) and the coordinator will work together to write a short contribution for this work package and plan future work;
• WP3 (training) will have time to go through the report on schools provided by the coordinator and Project Officer;
• the Ethics officer will have time to write the overall report;
• if other WP leaders (eg WP5, triggers) did not have time to write their part earlier they can use this time to do so.

The ESRs are also welcome to join, contribute to the editing and learn how a scientific report for a funder like the EU is written.
