Description

The Institute of Physics' flagship gender equality award, Project Juno, was a pivotal initiative for fostering inclusivity within UK & Ireland university physics departments. In 2023, the School of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh achieved the highest level of recognition – Juno Champion status.

In this presentation, as the Chair of the Juno application activity in Edinburgh, I will reflect on positive changes, such as financial support for childcare expenses for conference and research travel and our Neurodiversity Network, and ongoing work such as our desires around "decolonising" the taught physics curriculum; I'll also reflect on what didn't work.

Project Juno concluded in 2023, the presentation will also introduce the new inclusion model to replace it. This transition marks an new era in considering how to create diverse, equitable, and inclusive environments within physics departments.
