HEP faces enormous challenges that put its future at risk.
From strong competition for funding from other sciences to a transition to precision physics, in contrast to the "discovery physics" of the past decades, a huge effort is needed from all in the community.
It is time not just for a few dedicated individuals in outreach to share our science with the public, but for all of us to realize the importance of sharing our work, why we do it, the ups and downs, the challenges, the excitement, the successes and the failures. We all have to start dedicating some time in some way to communicating with non-HEP audiences, as those involved in the space programmes are obliged to do for example.
If we do not if we continue ‘leaving it to somebody else’ to do, putting communication and outreach at the bottom of the list of our objectives, the consequences could well be considerable.
