Word from the chair
We hope you have relaxed a bit during free Sunday, now we are entering the 2nd part of the conference. After brief welcome addresses, we continue straight with highlights from the LHC experiments. And you may want to join the Education & Outreach discussion lunch today.
Announcements
- Vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free food at coffee-breaks will be available on a special table. People having these dietary requirements please look for this specific table located in the foyer on the 2nd floor next to the North Hall.
- Discussion & Lunch on Education and Outreach is organised 12:30-14:30 at the Terrace 2A

- The panel discussion on the Future of Particle Physics with world’s leading lab directors will be held 19:00-20:45 at the Terrace 2A. Invited are also Czech political representatives, journalists, and interested public.

Early Career Scientist Awards
We congratulate Jennifer Ngadiuba (Fermilab) and Ian Moult (Yale University) for receiving the IUPAP Early Career Scientist Awards 2024 in particles and fields.
Places around you: Troja Campus
The location of the ICHEP party. The cornerstone of the new campus of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University was laid in May 1968. However, due to the Russian invasion and further political developments the start of the construction was delayed until 1971. 
(Some of the local participants even helped on the construction site. 🙂) In 1979 only some of the departments of physics were able to move to the new campus and build new experimental facilities, like the small Van de Graaff accelerator. The campus also hosts some departments of the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering of the Czech Technical University, like the Department of Nuclear Reactors with its small experimental reactor. All further construction then ceased. The campus suffered serious damage from floods in August 2002, but the affected buildings were quickly repaired and are now in an even better condition. The new Cryopavilion has also been completed. The last expansion of the campus happened in 2020 with the new pavilion for informatics. Just before ICHEP 2020…
Two questions for Rafik Er-Rabit

Why did you choose to come to the ICHEP2024?
This is the largest HEP conference in the world, so it means a lot to me and my career to present here as a student. So this was my last chance to do that, and I am very grateful for being selected by the organising committee. And I especially have to thank the chairs who helped me obtain the visa when I was stuck in the process. I thank them so very much for this opportunity; I literally got my visa the last day before coming.
What were you looking forward to the most when coming here?
Prague in particular, was on my list “to visit”, so finally, I can cross it from the list. I already had a chance to walk around downtown here, and oh my god, I love it so much. The astronomical clock, the streets, the food, it’s just amazing. Definitely, I am looking forward to the tour on the river, but also to visiting the nuclear reactor and the plenary sessions on neutrinos. There is actually a lot to do, and I appreciate the organisation; the conference app really helps to decide where to go for the sessions, and one cannot get lost.
Rafik is a PhD student from Ibn Tofail University, Kenitra, Morocco in his final year, and he also participated in the Fulbright program at the Louisiana State University, LA, USA. He is working on neutrino physics in Hyper-Kamiokande, where he is one of the first two African students in the collaboration.
