Word from the chair

Dear delegates! The great moment is here: ICHEP starts. The hallways of the conference center will be filled with people who look for their meeting rooms and greet friends. A usual picture of a conference. Yet this is not that obvious for us. Prague was assigned as the ICHEP2020 site. Preparations were halted by the pandemic and an online version took place only. This is our second attempt and we are happy to say welcome, this time in person. And beyond the packed scientific program, enjoy all what the ICHEP2020 participants were deprived of!

Places around you: Prague Congress Centre

The centre was built as a place for the Communist Party to hold its conventions, and opened in 1981 for its 16th convention. The architectural style, the huge drain on public funds for its construction and its representation of the ruling party led to it eventually being scorned and even hated by the general public. According to the rules of the day, part of the construction budget had to be spent on pieces of art. As a result, a visitor can now enjoy unique sculptures, tapestries, paintings, mosaics, decorative stones, design furniture and lustres throughout the buildings. The change of regime in 1989 led to a change of the usage of the building and since then it has hosted many important conferences, including the General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union in 2006, where the dwarf planet Pluto lost its status as a planet. Who knows what new conclusions will be drawn at ICHEP? Will we leave a strong footprint in the history of this place this week?
