Places around you: Nusle Bridge
Built in the early 1970s, the bridge became the most important traffic infrastructure in Prague as it spans over a deep valley right next to the Congress Centre, which naturally divides Prague to the north and south. A large number of passengers is transported by underground metro rail running inside the bridge and you probably use it every day. The stability of the bridge was tested by the military using a lot of heavily armoured vehicles and the most powerful jet engines. The meadows and river in the valley below the bridge, retaining their shape of almost two centuries ago, inspired the composer J. K. Tyl to write a song about the beauty of Czech lands, which eventually became the Czech national anthem.
Two questions for Marijus Ambrozas
(went to one large and a couple of smaller conferences before ICHEP2024)
Why did you choose to come to the ICHEP2024?
I think each year, you kind of skim through the conferences to see if there is anywhere you’d like to present or hear something. Once you are in your final year of PhD, you want to visit also some bigger conferences to see your possible opportunities after your PhD or even the postdoc. You go there to see what catches your interest. Since this is now the largest conference in particle physics that I am working in and am fascinated with, that was an easy pick, I think.
What are you looking forward to the most?
Seeing Prague is definitely one of the things I am looking forward to :D I have been here more than ten years ago, and I remember it was a beautiful city. But mostly, I am looking forward to the plenary sessions. I don’t have a specific one to catch, but many of them sound very interesting. And on Sunday, I am going on the uranium mine in Jáchymov excursion, so I am sure this will be quite interesting, too. Honestly, every day, there seems to be something very exciting. It is only a bit sad that so many interesting topics are happening simultaneously. I already wanted to go on three different ones this morning, but I had to pick only one - I am also doing some physics outreach in my country, so I will try to go there this afternoon.
Marijus is the first Phd student in his field in Lithuania, currently in his last year. He is working on the Drell-Yan analysis and the upgrade of the CMS pixel detector.
