Word from the chair
The first day of plenary talks brought many fantastic presentations both scientifically and graphically. Speakers have put incredible effort not only to summarise the results and talks of others, but also to the way they presented their topics to a general HEP audience. I was also surprised to see that many people sacrificed their lunch and attended the Education and Outreach discussion panel. I am sure many ideas and initiatives mentioned will take place and help us to recruit new generations. As we will probably hear today, during the collider discussion panel, the new generation will be needed.

Places around you: Bethlehem Chapel
(place of the conference dinner) The chapel was built in the 14th century and was meant for preaching in the Czech language. In those times, Bohemia was part of the Holy Roman Empire and German 
was the language of the ruling people. One of the first administrators and preachers was Jan (Johannes) Hus, a professor and rector of Charles University and an early church reformer. For his teaching, Jan Hus was excommunicated by the pope, but as this was not enforced, the pope decided to burn him at the stake for heresy. Hus' teaching had a strong influence on Martin Luther, who published his Ninety-five Theses over a century later. The original chapel was destroyed in 1786, and was rebuilt according to original plans in 1954. Currently, the chapel is used by the Czech Technical University for various ceremonials.
Two questions for Sneha Malde

Why did you choose to come to the ICHEP2024?
The main reason for this conference is that I was asked to give a plenary talk here, which is a huge honour, so I felt like I couldn’t really say no. But I like the breadth of the spectrum of the talks on ICHEP; you get a very good overview.
What were you looking forward to the most when coming here?
When I accepted the invitation I really thought I would be able to come for the whole week and maybe also to bring my family and we’d have a holiday. And I was looking forward to Prague because I‘ve never been here before as I really like to see new places. Unfortunately, everyone’s schedule just didn’t work out, and in the end, I had too many constraints to let me come for the whole week, which is a real shame; I would have really liked to come for the parallel talks as well.
From the physics side, I am looking forward to hearing about areas of physics that I don’t work in because it is so important to have a bigger overview than just your own area, and it is so easy to get trapped in it. So, I’m really looking forward to the plenary talks, especially the dark matter searches and experiments that are different from collider physics.
Sneha is an associate professor of physics at Oxford University and works at LHCb and BESIII experiments.
