Description
The "Workshop on Sustainable High Energy Physics" was initiated as an international grassroots initiative by early and mid-career researchers in 2021. It was organized as a virtual workshop and featured a three-day program with keynote lectures, panel discussions, and contributed talks. The 2nd edition took place in 2022, and the 3rd edition in 2024. The workshop series focuses on all aspects of sustainability in the broad context of high-energy physics and discusses the environmental impact and mitigation strategies of research facilities, energy needs for computing and infrastructures, challenges for experimental collaborations, researchers, and institutions, and it provides a platform for various smaller initiatives. Through virtual rooms and generous time slots for discussion, the workshop provides an international platform for networking and coordination on sustainability subjects. In this talk, the history of the workshop series will be reviewed and outcomes will be presented.
