Description

The IPPOG Fall Meeting 2017 will take place at CERN from Thursday, 2nd November until Saturday, 4th November 2017. Please register and select from a few choices in the registration form.

We propose four PANEL topics.

You have a chance to participate at 2 panels, as there are two consecutive panel sessions each with 2 panels in parallel. Please select one panel from both sessions where you can focus on some aspect of a cool outreach activity in your country, experiment or project. We will limit each panel to 16 people to guarantee good presentations of all topics. There is a new set of panels with every IPPOG meeting, allowing you full coverage over time.

When you register, please select the panel(s) you would like to participate in. The panellists will have time to discuss together on Friday to compile their views, advance ideas and prepare for the panel presentation on Saturday.

  1. Exhibitions and Event Highlights: This time we propose to focus the discussion on how to handle conferences like ECSITE etc.
  2. Broadening the physics scope of Masterclasses: Participants of this panel will be challenged to expand the scope of Masterclasses to cover new physics topics, experiments, and/or laboratories.
  3. IPPOG and gravitational waves: Gravitational waves are back in the spotlight, thanks to the recent Physics Nobel Prize. Panelists are asked to consider the role of IPPOG in the outreach of gravitational waves physics.
  4. Beauty and Physics: Thanks to IPPOGer Ivan Melo, there has been an interesting electronic discussion on “Beauty and Physics”, subject of the article Ivan published. Let’s discuss this beautiful topic face to face.

There will be three WORKING GROUP discussions:

As with the panels, there will be 2 consecutive working group sessions, the second with 2 parallel WGs. Thus, you can participate at 2 WGs on Thursday morning. The WG reports will be given on Friday.

  1. WG on Explaining Particle Physics Hot Topics to a Lay Audience
  2. WG on Bringing Masterclasses to New Countries
  3. WG on Global Cosmic Rays

IPPOG portrait session

Thursday after the IPPOG session at 6 pm you will have a chance to have your portrait taken for the new IPPOG web page. Representatives and associates are invited. Please have your photo taken if you didn't do so at last year’s IPPOG meeting, or take a new photo if you would like to improve the one you took a year ago. You can download last year’s photos in the registration form. You can also come along if you just would like to enjoy the drinks and finger food that we will provide. Please bring a typical object with you that will personalise your portrait even more.

IPPOG dinner

On Friday evening the IPPOG official dinner will take place in the newly redecorated Glassbox of CERN Restaurant 1.

We will also organise an informal dinner on Thursday evening. You will be responsible for your own bill.

Visit

Friday evening we will visit the great, creative place at CERN, Ideasquare.

We are looking forward to see you all very soon at CERN!
