Description

Workshop on State-of-the-Art in High Field Accelerator Magnets

The CERN Council has endorsed in June 2020 the Update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics[1]. The strategy document contains a strong recommendation to reinforce R&D on key technologies for future accelerators, and in particular high field magnets, including HTS. To follow up on the implementation of this recommendation, an Expert Panel has been convened under the auspices of Laboratory Directors Group. The Expert Panel is charged with the creation of a shared R&D roadmap towards the high field magnets of the next generation.

As a first step to accompany and support the creation of the roadmap, we are convening a topical workshop on the State of the Art in High Field Accelerator Magnets. The workshop is intended to review the results obtained in the last years and pointing both to the technical realizations and, most important, lessons learned and challenges. The proposed scope spans from conductors to magnets, LTS and HTS, and associated technologies. Finally, we wish to extend participation to all main actors in the field, worldwide, to obtain a comprehensive view.

Because of the importance of this consultation step, we plan to have the presentations documented in the form of written paper contributions, produced by the presenters and contributors, and edited in the form of proceedings.
