International HiRadMat Workshop
This is the first announcement for the HiRadMat Workshop to be held on 10th– 12th July 2019, hosted by The European Organization for Nuclear Research, CERN, Geneva, Switzerland.
This workshop will bring together a range of scientific communities to exchange ideas on current and future projects linked to the experimental goals of HiRadMat, i.e. High Radiation to Materials research. This workshop will comprise of those from the accelerator physics community as well as other scientific areas, for example, condensed matter physics, materials science, plasma physics and engineering. The agenda will include a range of invited presentations and dedicated slots for discussion with all participants. The workshop will end with visits to CERN experimental/project areas.
The outcome of the HiRadMat Workshop will determine the future strategy and operation of the facility.
HiRadMat is one of CERNs experimental areas designed to facilitate pulsed high energy, high-intensity proton and ion beams in a dedicated irradiation area where a range of materials and components are tested. The proton beam, directly extracted from the CERN SPS at 440 GeV/c, is comparable to that extracted to the LHC. Achievable is a maximum of 288 protons at approximately 3.5 x 10^13 protons per pulse. Since its commissioning in 2011, HiRadMat has continued to advance and develop to provide its users with state of the art experimental facilities. With the successful deliverance of single pulsed proton beams to a multitude of novel experiments including tests on materials, electronic devices, detectors and optical systems, the future vision of HiRadMat is under discussion.

HiRadMat currently operates under Transnational Access (ARIES) and provides financial support to external experiments (conditions apply) and thus welcomes and encourages external experiments to come and use this unique facility. - Materials science including radiation damage effects on materials.

- Condensed matter research and laser driven shock waves.
- Fusion materials R&D.
- Accelerator technologies and high power targetry.
